• Lots of collage/layering
• Looks like ballpoint-pen/biro and in some cases has been digitally manipulated
• Really distinctive, playful tone of voice 
• I'm not sure of the context of these illustrations but I can visualise them as part of editorials

I really like that their website is designed with a similar hand-drawn theme. Their work is quite reminiscent of notebook doodles.

• I really like that you can see how much craft and time has been implemented into Soto's work
• I think the hand-drawn lines and limited colour create a really nice aesthetic
• I think something about her characters eyes and the meticulous detailing create a kind of insidious nature

What is illustration for? Vector Based Illustration Example

• Because of the format/scale, vectors would most likely have been used
• Intricate designs can be made without losing quality
• Using vectors can help with keeping colour palettes simple - which is important when printing skateboard decks (less colours means cheaper to print)
• Designs can be transferred onto different products (e.g. T-shirts, wallets)

I am interested in the format of skateboard decks - it is completely different to the usual A-format I usually work with. As I'm also interested in product/pattern design using illustration, this is an area I want to explore.

Reflection on PPP

In summary:

• Although I have completed all the set study tasks, I need to allocate time in my schedule every week to look at other practitioners work & other influences and get them recorded/blogged!
• I need to use a wider variety of sources to gather information - books, magazines, exhibitions, found objects (packaging and product design)
• PPP is good for reflecting on my progress as a developing illustrator - not just my drawings
• This blog needs to be a collection of things that inspire me, like a book I wish existed.
